This course provides an introduction to health and social care, developing your communication and IT skills, as well as the practical and technical skills needed to work in the sector.
You will study the role of the carer, exploring their responsibilities, identifying the needs of others, as well as understanding the variety of jobs in the industry. You will also get to look more closely at personal care and learn how to create activities and learning experiences for both children and adults.
As part of this exciting course, you will also complete a work placement within a Health and Social care setting. This setting can include care homes, hospitals, medical centres etc. You will also have the opportunity to participate in additional safeguarding training that has been created for the care sector and includes the 'Keeping children safe in Education 2022' updates.

You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, collected from written assessments, presentations, witness statements and practice observation.

Olufunmi joined City and Islington College in September 2011 as a Lecturer in Health and Social of which they had the opportunity of teaching on the Public Service course for 2 years.
Prior to this Olufunmi taught Health and Social Care and Childcare for 5 years in various colleges in London and has also worked with the London Borough of Southwark as an Early, Toy Librarian for 2 years.
Olufunmi has experience working as a Panel member with a Fostering and Adoption agency in the London Borough of Surrey from the year 2006 to 2021.
Alice joined City and Islington College in 2014 and is highly experienced in childhood studies and has completed a ProfGCET at Canterbury Christ Church University, Early years Professional Status with London Metropolitan University and HND with Hackney Community College.
Alice has industry experience as a Nursery Manager and over two decades experience of working in various Health and Social Care Settings. Alice is also an overseas trained teacher in Accounts and Economics.
Alice believes in self-development, creating environment that fosters learning and giving learners the opportunity to thrive and achieve lifelong skills that enables them to fulfil their potential. Alice enjoys meeting people and learning about different places and cultures.
