ABOUT THE COURSE

This course is for non-native speakers of English who are considering a career in Construction and would like to develop their English whilst gaining the skills required in the industry. 

You will study English and Maths, delivered in the context of Construction, and have a weekly practical construction multi-skills-based session.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will study:

  • A practical introduction to construction multi-skills, including painting and decorating, joinery and brickwork
  • Health and safety awareness for different sectors and jobs in the construction sector
  • Essential vocabulary and terminology used in the construction industry
  • Reading and understanding signs and notices 
  •  Adjectives for describing materials, places and people in the workplace

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need to:

·         Have passed an ESOL Skills for Life qualification at Entry Level 3 or be operating at that level

·         Be interested and willing to learn about the construction industry

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will take the Acentis Award or Certificate in ESOL at Level 1, depending on your prior qualifications and your skill level.

You will also take a maths qualification at an appropriate level.

You will be assessed in class for your skills in the different practical activities that you do in construction.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Aged 16-18


If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August prior to the start date of your course and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your programme then your study with us will be free. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

You can progress to a Construction skills course at an appropriate level for your English and practical skills and this will be discussed with you during your time on the course.
