ABOUT THE COURSE

This is specialist pathway in digital media production.

You will be working at an intermediate level in digital skills. You will develop digital skills such in:

  • Film, video and television production
  • Graphic design
  • Special FX and Motion Graphics
  • Digital publishing and page layouts
  • Production management
  • Marketing and Promotional Materials
  • Live Show Editing/Production
  • Idents
  • Short Film Production

You will use equipment and software programmes such as:

  • Cameras
  • Tripods
  • Audio recorders
  • Green Screen
  • Premiere Pro and other editing software
  • After Effects
  • Photoshop
  • InDesign
  • Camera Crane
  • Multi-camera/Live editing

Using a blended learning approach (online/classroom workshops/remotely, you will also learn about the media industry and develop employability skills. You will be assessed by portfolio. Your final project will be assessed by the examining board. Visits, trips and work experience are compulsory.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will be studying:

  • Unit 1: Introduction to media processes and technical skills
  • Unit 2: Introduction to design and research skills in creative media production
  • Unit 3: Introduction to professional practice in creative media production
  • Unit 4: Critical and contextual awareness in creative media production
  • Unit 5: Investigating audio production and technology
  • Unit 6: Investigating visual production and technology
  • Unit 7: Investigating interactive media production and technology
  • Unit 8: FMP 

WHAT WILL I NEED?

Entry requirements:

  • 4 GCSEs Grade 4 and above
  • Level 2 Vocational Qualification with a merit
  • BKSB English and maths Level 2 or above
  • A written statement or task may be requested

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course is assessed through coursework assignments, projects/ tests throughout the course, which are set and marked by your teachers and externally verified by the external examiners.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Aged 16-18


If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August prior to the start date of your course and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your programme then your study with us will be free. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.

Adults - Level 3

If you will be aged 19 to 23 prior to the start date of your course, and do not already have a full Level 3 qualification, you may be eligible for a Level 3 entitlement, in which case your study with us will be free. If you are older, or already have a Level 3, we have many other Level 3 courses that are also free to study. Otherwise, you will have to pay the fees yourself or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

MEET SOME OF THE TEACHERS

Marek Morzuch

Marek started at CONEL as an ESOL student back in 2007 and has now been teaching Creative Media for the past 4 years.

Marek has a great interest in the Media sector, especially in Games Design and has evolved their skills over time, but it was shortly after completing an IT Diploma that they knew they enjoyed helping classmates with their work and would enjoy a career in teaching.

After graduating from the Game Design, VFX and Animation course at university with 1st degree, Marek knew they wanted to pursue a career as an educator. Although their main area of specialism is 3D Games Design, due to natural interest in all different forms of the creative sector, through motivation, dedication, and willingness to learn, Marek developed in different fields of Media, including, photography, videography, traditional and digital animation, graphic creation and more.

Marek enjoys the challenge of teaching and getting the opportunity to continue to update their skills with new technological advancements to allow not only for the delivery of up-to-date content but also for their self-development.


Donal Kofteros

Dónal Kofteros is the learning manager for Level 1 and 2 Music Performance and Production and DJ Skills lecturer at CONEL College. Dónal holds a Bachelor's degree in Religious Education and Music from Mater Dei Institute, Dublin City University. Additionally, Dónal pursued a Master's degree in Popular Music Practice with a specialisation in production at BIMM (British and Irish Modern Music Institute).

With their educational background and practical experience, which spans over 15 years in the events and recorded music industries, Dónal brings a comprehensive understanding of music production and performance to the role.

Before relocating to London in 2022, Dónal served as a secondary school teacher in Dublin, Ireland and was the Head of the Music Department at Beneavin De La Salle College in Fingals. This experience solidified their passion for music and education and strengthened their commitment to empowering aspiring students in their musical journeys. 

At CONEL College, Dónal strives to create a stimulating and nurturing learning environment where students can explore their creativity, develop technical skills, and find their unique artistic voices. Through teaching, production work, and DJ performances, Dónal aims to inspire and connect individuals through the transformative power of music.


Scarlett Squire

With over eight years of experience teaching Creative Media, Scarlett has developed a passion for the creative industires with a specialisim in broadcast journalism and video production. Scarlett's current position is Learning Manager for Level 1 and Level 2 Creative Media at CONEL, However, Scarlett teaches across the board on all levels courses within the department. Scarlett's educational background includes BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Broadcast Journalism which they gained at College, followed by a BA in Media and Cultural Studies from UAL London College of Communication. Scarlett has a CELTA and is qualified to teach ESOL which they did part time before training as an FE lecturer 

Prior to Scarlett's teaching career, they worked as a broadcast assistant for a radio station in London, where they were responisble for operating the studio, looking after guests and recording and editing advertisments. Scarlett has been involved in the production of several social documentaries over the years. During Scarlett's free time, they put their energy into creating social media content for small businesses and produces a weekly podcast for fun. This combination of practical experience, academic knowledge, and a passion for media enables Scarlett to effectively mentor and inspire aspiring media professionals in their creative journey.
