ABOUT THE COURSE

This initial teacher training qualification gives you an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching sessions and how to assess and give constructive feedback.

You will gain the knowledge and skills needed to progress as a teacher or trainer in the further education and skills sector.

This course is offered as blended learning, a mixture of classroom and online learning.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Topics covered can include:

  • The roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Inclusive teaching and learning approaches
  • Assessment of learners
  • Facilitating learning and development for individuals
  • Facilitating learning and development in groups
  • Understanding principles and practices of assessment

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You must have achieved a qualification and/or have experience in the subject area you wish to teach, at the appropriate level. In addition, you will need literacy at the appropriate level, including the ability to read and interpret written tasks and organise written information clearly and coherently.

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

There are three units that are divided into sections and assessed by means of assignments, one of which is a 20-minute micro-teaching session.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Adults - Level 3

If you will be aged 19 to 23 prior to the start date of your course, and do not already have a full Level 3 qualification, you may be eligible for a Level 3 entitlement, in which case your study with us will be free. If you are older, or already have a Level 3, we have many other Level 3 courses that are also free to study. Otherwise, you will have to pay the fees yourself or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.

Some courses will have other associated costs, such as for specialist materials and trips. Many of our students are eligible for financial support, see here for details.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

Progress routes include:

  • Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET)
  • Level 3 Award in Assessment and Quality Assurance
  • Level 5 Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
