Apprenticeship Summary

You’ll provide effective and efficient administrative support across the organisation. You’ll gain valuable experience of what it is like to work in a research organisation in all parts of the research lifecycle where you’ll deliver exceptional customer service.

As an apprentice with us, you’ll be expected to work as part of a team and contribute to the smooth running of services meeting the needs of service users internally and externally.

This will be a structured apprenticeship programme. Each apprenticeship will have their base within the People Directorate and have a structured rotational programme to work in other parts of the organisation.

Typical duties will include:

  • Working within the team to provide a professional, customer-focused service to all stakeholders
  • Managing a generic inbox, sourcing responses and responding
  • Supporting managers with routine admin
  • Note-taking and diary organising
  • Preparing document packs and reports
  • Maintaining accurate records on the database and internal NatCen systems
  • Day-to-day administration

Requirements and Prospects

  • GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4) Essential
  • GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 4) Essential
  • A can-do attitude, takes pride in their work, flexible, positive and proactive with a willingness to learn and develop in all areas of administration
  • Communication skills (verbally and written), IT skills (Outlook, Word), Patience, 

Able to:

  • Meet deadlines,
  • Work independently,
  • Work in a team
  • Follow tasks through
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality and discretion in relation to sensitive information

Further Information

We have four apprenticeships and they’ll from part of a rotation programme and must be able to commute to our London (EC1V – Northampton Square) and Harrod Wood (RM3 – Ashton Gate) offices. Working pattern: • Two-Three days in office • One day working from home • One day study

Occupational profile

Once our apprenticeships have successfully completed the apprenticeship programme, they will have the skills, knowledge and qualifications to pursue an ongoing career in different parts of the organisation and the opportunity to further progress in Level 4/ degree apprenticeships depending on their area of interest after the rotation programme.
