Costume and Wardrobe Roles - Introduction (Creative Skills Academy)

This masterclass aims to give students a comprehensive understanding of costume design and the various roles within a wardrobe department.. Participants will learn about the creative and practical aspects of costume design, the responsibilities of wardrobe professionals, and gain hands-on experience in key skills.

This course will provide students with a solid foundation in costume design and wardrobe management, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills to prepare them for future roles in theatre, film and live events. 

This 1-day session will cover:

• Introduction to key roles: Wardrobe Supervisor, Costume Assistant, Dresser and more
• The creative process: from script analysis to final design
• Importance of historical accuracy, character development and storytelling through costumes
• Sources of inspiration: historical texts, artwork, fashion trends and cultural references
• Creating mood boards and concept sketches
• Essential tools and materials used in costume design
• Techniques for sketching, fabric selection and pattern making
• Techniques for measuring, fitting and making alterations
• Best practices for costume maintenance and care
• Managing costume inventory and storage

You will need to be eligible to study in the UK. Upon enrolment, you will be asked to upload residency and income documents for college funding purposes.
