About the Course

This 2 day SFX course takes place on Saturday and Monday and will equip you with the knowledge and ability to carry out basic SFX for film, drama and editorial.

You will gain an introduction into the specialist skills required to work in this sector. You will work with a professional make-up designer and learn how to research and create effects to meet the director/talent’s vision. You'll become familiar with Broadcast Studio Production practices as well as Health and Safety requirements.

What Will I Study?

This 2-day course will focus on:

  • The role of the make-up artist
  • Direct on set application of cuts
  • Preliminary modelling using wax then direct application silicone
  • Bruising and black eyes
  • Dirt and blood effects
  • The importance of continuity and use of medical references
  • The importance of patch testing clients
  • Health and safety
  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns
  • Deep tissue trauma and use of prosthetics

What Will I Need?

You will need to be eligible to study in the UK. Upon enrolment, you will be asked to upload residency and income documents for college funding purposes.

You will need to bring a notepad and pen and brushes (a fine liner and a powder brush would be useful).
